A quick Google search of the term ‘e-learning’ will return you 149 million results. Many, many millions of these will be PDF documents, and many other millions will be PowerPoint presentations. There’s only one thing more ineffective than training staff with boring text and that is training staff with boring text on a screen – and this is the reason the term ‘e-learning’ evokes a groan in so many of us.
We need to encourage creativity in content creation because until we can improve the standard of the learning on offer, we will not fully realise the potential of the platforms and software we are developing. So when we think about content let’s think less about the ‘e’ and more about the ‘learning’ and see if we can clean this dirty word up!
